2026 Winter Provincial Trials

Jonelle Seeley

Medicine Hat, AB March 6-8, 2026 - The Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club (AMAC) turned in an exceptional showing this past weekend as they hosted the Swim Alberta 2026 Winter Provincial Trials, sponsored by Team Aquatics, at the Big Marble Go Centre. The meet welcomed 33 teams from across Alberta, drawing hundreds of swimmers for one of the most competitive events on the winter calendar. AMAC’s 10‑swimmer roster rose to the challenge, delivering a series of strong performances. Over the three‑day meet, Marlin athletes recorded numerous new personal bests, secured fresh qualifying standards, reached the podium, and earned tickets to the 2026 Provincial Championships.

Heart & Hustle:

  • The Sr crew had a great weekend of racing. The standout overall effort and attention to detail that stood out to us was from Wyatt Gage. Wyatt went 4/6 best times for his swims this weekend and was even able to improve on multiple 50’s at finals from already setting new PB’s in the morning! He was very positive all weekend and was everyone's hype man on the side supporting his own team mates along with the Youth swimmers. Heart and Hustle award goes to you Wyatt!
  • Isabela Josey had a stand-out weekend in the eyes of the coaching staff. Isabela challenged herself with events outside of her comfort zone and found huge personal bests in swims like her 400m freestyle, taking off over 8 seconds at the end of a long session! She maintained a growth-mindset all weekend working hard to improve on each of her strokes both at the meet and with plans on what to keep working on in practice. Isabela brought a positive attitude to the pool each session, even when exhausted, allowing her and her teammates to stay motivated all weekend long. We see all of your hard work and dedication, Isabela, keep it up!

Swim of the Meet:

  • The swim that had everyone out of their seats and screaming the loudest all weekend was Aliya Seeley’s 400IM! Going into the event, she knew who she needed to beat in order to advance into Champs. Aliya started off her 400IM very aggressively, going out a best time at her 100 fly split! From there, she got around her walls well and fought hard right until the end. She snagged a big PB by 2 seconds and punched her ticket to Champs! Such a great effort and it was super exciting to watch. Well done Aliya!!
  • Olivia Liebenberg was able to snag three gold medals over the weekend, punching her ticket to Champs over and over again! The race that stood out most to the coaches was her 100m freestyle where she went in with a winning mindset, knew exactly what she needed to improve from prelims to finals, and made the necessary changes to snag her second gold medal, the best race splits she has ever had, and a huge personal best! Olivia’s focus and determination to improve was a driving factor for her success throughout the meet and we cannot wait to see what she does at Champs! Well done, Olivia!

Bonus Heart & Hustle / Heart of the Meet:

  • This special award goes to our Meet Manager, Glen Mori! Glen has worked tirelessly for months behind the scenes to ensure this meet ran smoothly, spending hours at the pool including late nights and early mornings and days where he barely left the deck. The coaches feel we could not complete these swim meet awards without recognizing the massive efforts from Glen and all of the volunteers this weekend. Your heart for swimming, hustle to get things done, and hours of work are the reasons we were able to host such a successful Provincial Trials event.
