Coaches Shout Out: 

Edmonton Open: Congratulations to the 11 AMAC swimmers who attended the Edmonton Open meet over the weekend! It was a great experience for the older swimmers to get some long-course racing in during our training cycle. It was great to watch the team spirit from our oldest athletes (after seeing it with the younger ones at Festivals last weekend) on deck cheering each other on behind the blocks and overall having fun on deck together!

 

Swim Meet Awards:

• Swim of the Meet: The Swim of the Meet performance from Edmonton Open goes to Matthew Daley for his amazing 50 breaststroke! Matt had an overall excellent weekend, showing the work he has put in to qualify for this meet and swim extremely well! On his 50 breast, he was able to drop nearly two seconds and snag his first LCM 16&over Provincial Trials qualifying time! To have such a stellar swim, Matt put together his race-pace speed on breaststroke with an underwater pullout that brought him ahead of his heat right off the dive! It was such a great swim to watch and very well deserved. Congratulations, Matthew! 

 

• Heart and Hustle: The Heart and Hustle award from Edmonton Open goes to Leo Yonkman for an overall outstanding performance over the weekend. From putting in the technical changes that he has been working on in practice, gathering the group to cheer each other on, and swimming a majority of his races at or under personal best – Leo brought the heart and hustle to Edmonton! Even when feeling a bit under the weather with a cold, Leo put in the work all weekend to swim fast, use what he has been working on in training, and cheer (even when he had no voice) for all of his teammates. Very well done, Leo! 

 

• A big shout out for another club record that fell this last weekend. Rowynn Biffart crushed a PB by a full second in the 100 fly final, snagging 1st overall and breaking an AMAC record. Well done Row!
